The main choice for this film, would be the car that is used - something of luxury, as in the real world, most people don't dream of owning a Ford Focus (no offence to any Focus drivers), but they dream of owning a Porsche or a Ferrari etc.
To begin this projection, I set out filming myself in a Porsche to see what the shots would look like and if I could get the angles I needed.
As the footage shows, it did not go to well. Not being able to sit behind the drivers seat was a real issue as it meant that I couldn't get some of the angles that I needed. Furthermore, not having a very big space where the door opens meant that the camera was not able to get into a position where you could see the full dash.
When it came to actually filming, I decided to shoot using Range Rover instead. this turned out to have a lot of advantages. Firstly, the dashboard is way more high-tech than the Porsche and the amount of lights and buttons it has looks very space age. Secondly, it has four doors which meant I could position myself behind the driver and get over the shoulder shots and shots down the middle of the cockpit. There were also a few nice gimmicks that I could get up close to, which made for interesting shots.
I also needed to film a small intro for the film, which turned out to be harder than expected. Trying to get the pan smooth was a real issue. I resorted to the rubber band method and that did make the pan smoother, however, it seemed to make the tripod jolt when I started the pan. As for the lighting, I used two lights and an LED torch.
To make my short film, I simply placed the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro and made a few adjustments to the lighting, changing the brightness and contrast and then equalised the image, finally adding a tint which enabled me to reduce the vibrance of the image, giving it that darker and smokey feel.
Pros and Cons:
After watching back my film, I noticed a number of issues with it that I would need to address, nonetheless, the general structure of the film, and the shots, I feel, were successful enough for me not to do a reshoot.
However my issues are thus - Extremely distorted sound. The pan is jumpy toward the end. The sequencing could be altered to make the story flow better.
I adressed these problems and rearranged the order and now I feel that the new sequence make the events much clearer and keeps the continuity of the film flowing. Mixing the sound properly has made the overall film much better and makes it sound much more professional.
