Mock Exam Mock Up

After thinking about all of the possible ideas and themes that I could explore, I needed to whittle the ideas down and focus on a select few that I would be able to take further and develop. One of the ideas that I was extremely interested in exploring was the use of a projection. This is something that is relatively new to me and would be a challenge. But what am I going to project?

After doing a brief search about projections within art, it became clear to me that projecting onto a plain white wall is not seen as being too creative (well it all depends on the projection). This made me think about what I could project onto. With my study and coursework having a direct link to the automobile, I began to conjure up the idea of projecting directly onto a car itself. With the car being a relatively large object - unless you drive a G-Whiz or a BMW Bubble Car - I would be able to project easily onto the side of the car or as my idea portrays, onto the windows of the car.

As I had no material ready to project onto a car, I drew up few diagrams as to what the finished product may look like - note I am no artist..

A view from the inside of the car, the projection would be in front of you on the windscreen and there would be a projection on the rearview screen, therefore if the person looked through the rearview mirror, they would see the projection - therefore giving them two projections to watch.

If you are wondering, "just what is that elegant automobile?", that is my Renault Clio - the car that I would be projecting onto - The second generation Clio is known for having a gigantic windscreen, therefore giving me maximum space to project onto.

What are the issues with this piece?
As with any great piece of art, there are always going to restrictions...
• where will the car be displayed within the school?
• would there be a power source near enough to the car, if displayed outside?
• if outside, how will I control the lighting - ensuring that the projections can be seen?
• will the projectors be able to project onto glass? Will they be big enough/powerful enough?
