London Response - Idea 1

For my first initial idea, I wish to explore light drawing and long exposures on the camera. The way I plan to do this is by taking brightly colored lights (torches, glow sticks etc.) and setting the camera so that the shutter speed is elongated and drawn out, allowing a lot of light to be captured by the lens. How does this relate to my theme? Well I wish to help explore the advanced design on automobiles, by making the shape and line of the object apparent by drawing over the general shape with light. This idea can advance with different layers of lighting with different colors, creating a vibrant exploratory piece.

I have mocked up what I wish for this piece to look like in the end with some very elaborate drawings..

Having made one lalalalalal

To improve my idea - and make it more worthy of a 10 hour piece - I have decided to make a grid of 4 of these light drawing pictures. As of yet, I am debating wether or not to make the piece an evolution of a certain car, or just an evolution of the car in general. However, more specifically, I could look at the evolution of the design of the body shape of the car.
I have mocked up what this could look like..

My next step was to decide which cars I wish to use. The choice needs to consider the era of the car and the body shape design. I want the shapes to be fairly different, which will further highlight the meaning behind my piece.

The cars I have chosen are -

Bentley 4.5 Litre - 1930
Jaguar E-Type - 1961
Ferrari F40 - 1982
Pagani Zonda 760PS - 2013

Some of these cars, I already have pictures to play with, however some of them I will need to go out and find, either on the streets or from museums.

To collect my images, I had to venture to a total of 2 different locations. Over the weekend I visited London to see what was about on the streets and and stumbled upon the mighty F40 just off Park Lane and for the other 3, I took a quick trip up to see some friends at Silverstone Motor Circuit who let me photograph their rare cars. Now I have the images, I need to begin to manipulate them and 'light draw' over them.

I have created a video as to how I made each individual photo..

To demonstrate the idea behind my piece, these pictures show the original image with the car and the light drawing which will show the lines I have followed.

The four final images look like so:
