Lightbulb Task

Now, if you look at my work and compare it to others, you may ask yourself - where is the light bulb?
Well that little red dot is my lightbulb, an LED one yes, but nonetheless, a bulb that emits light. Now as said in the brief we cannot add wires to the light bulb. 'How do I make light shine from this bulb?' I then asked myself. With wires of course, but I'll have to hide them as I cannot photoshop them out!
On reflection, my picture is not the best, and I know this and accept it. I believe that what makes my idea creative and original is the way that the electricity for the bulb has been sourced. Normal people would use a plug socket, but I used an orange. Yes, an orange. Combining the citric acids and copper and zinc nails, I was able to generate 3.5 volts from one orange (enough to light an LED).
To set up my photo, I placed 4 orange segments into a box of mirrors, which was then placed in a dark cupboard. To ensure that no light was let in from behind me, I draped a black cloth over me.
Why doesn't my image look a million dollars? If I had more time and the right equipment, I would be able to capture my 'light orange' with much more clarity. With correct lighting, I would have been able to make the orange of the segments much more vibrant, and the background completely black - creating a high contrast within the image. Some may think to themselves that my little orange lightbulb project mirrors that of a secondary school science project, but I must have been an underprivileged child as I never got to do that project - hence the fun I had creating and exploring this project.

Making my project come to life - a touching photo gallery:

    1. Hi Harriet, Although Reece probably appreciated your fishy animation joke, perhaps this is not the best place for it to be.

  2. I think you have been creative in your choosing of an LED for your bulb as most people did take the traditional route. However a technology exercise, freely available on the internet and not produced straight from the mind of a Reece is not quite what I'm after. I like that you had a go at something different and that you have documented it well.

Think about how an LED is a focus light source. A single point of light and how single points of light have been used in Art history and in photography especially. Hollywood and Film Noir. Also think about how you could have made a beautiful atmospheric photograph.

    Look around you.
