This time, I wanted to begin to explore something that I have never done before - using the car as a canvas. This is not a new idea to the world and there have been many previous examples - I have just never considered using the car as a canvas. Saying that the car is the canvas, may make you think that you need to get your paint brush and paint away onto the body of the car - it doesn't. You could wrap, spray, project install many different pieces of art work onto the side of the car, the bonnet, the windows etc.
Some of my favourite examples, where the car has been used as a canvas are done mainly by pop artists. BMW have had a special edition of their Le Mans car painted by a famous, current artists since 1975 - including works from artists such as Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and the more recent Jeff Koons. These cars are really a sense of letting loose and the artists really embrace this and have come up with some amazing pieces. Although only ever seeing one in the flesh - I am sure the others are just as impressive.
Similarly to this, hyper car manufacturer Bugatti recently released a special edition of the Veyron called 'Veyron Grand Sport Bernar Venet' and as you may have guessed, French conceptual artist Bernar Venet was commissioned to create a custom livery for the car. The idea uses the symbolic equation of speed and has integrated it into the outlandish design of the Veyron.
